Due to tertiary studies, I have developed strong discipline and time management skills as it requires tasks to be completed by the due date and at an adequate level. To be completed successfully, these tasks require effective research skills, critical analysis, academic literacy and computer skills, in which I have established. These tasks consists of essays, reports and literature reviews, to name a few, in which my writing skills are demonstrated. In addition, I have also developed strong communication and teamwork skills in tutorials from group work and delivering presentations.
2. Specialized Skills
Studying an undergraduate degree in criminology has prepared me with many skills for my professional future. This degree has provided me with an extensive amount of information and knowledge to specialize as a community corrections officer. I have developed knowledge on diverse communities, individuals, cultures and economics which goes hand in hand with said profession. I also have an extensive understanding of the juvenile justice system, the criminal justice system, offenders and crime prevention. Additionally, I have explored concepts and theories in psychology and brain behaviors. This specialized information will be beneficial in developing my professional future as a community corrections officer.
3. Community Application Funding
Through my experience in developing community funding application, I have developed transferable skills which are beneficial in future employment. The funding application utilized community needs analysis skills as information and data was to be gathered and analysed. My project identification and proposal development skills were established as we identified a need in the community and developed a program to assist that need. We developed a program to assist primary school students in the CALD community of Western Sydney. Through the community needs analysis we investigated potential funding bodies to support our program. This is the main component in ensuring our program, goals and priorities can be carried out. It is important that the organisation we select agree on the values to provide the best assistance possible for the CALD community. In turn, I have developed the possession of knowledge and familiarity with the requirements of funding bodies.
4. Applied debate: developing position papers
An applied debate reinforces one side of an argument with the use of evidence based arguments. Its purpose is to question current policies and to push for necessary changes locally, nationally or globally. Through developing a position paper as a tool in an applied debate context, I have established the ability to research, collect and analyse data. Furthermore, to form effective and credible evidence based arguments and being able to provide solutions and courses of action for change in the law or society.
